The simplest wedding invitation would be something along the lines of:-
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smith request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Sarah Louise to Robert Peter Johnson at the (Venue, date, time)

If the groom’s parents would also like to be included in the wedding invitation wording you could adapt it slightly so that it read:-

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smith request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Sarah Louise to Robert Peter Johnson the son of Mr and Mrs Richard Johnson at the (Venue, date, time)

The wedding invitation wording may become more complicated following a divorce. If the bride’s parents are divorced and there is a new step parent the wedding invitation wording should read:-

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
Request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of Mrs. Smith’s daughter
Catherine Jameson

If the bride and groom are paying for the entire event and are sending out the wedding invitations themselves, an example of the wedding invitation wording would be:-

You are cordially invited to celebrate
the wedding of Sarah Louise Smith
and Robert Steven Gregory
You would then include the details such as time place etc.

It is important to remember when sending out your invitations to include a response card and full details regarding the reception. You can also include helpful information such as a map and directions to the venue, your gift list information if you have one, details of the dress code and also local places to stay should the guests want a room for the night. Your guests will definitely appreciate the effort.
